May 2, 2010: Blackhawk Church Community Service Day
Blackhawk Church devoted an entire sunday for their congregation to volunteer to perform projects around
the ciry. Family Centers was lucky enough to get two teams to spend the entire day helping us with spring
cleaning of our rain gardens. Thanks to these volunteers for not only completing the assigned task, but
laying some landscape fabric and mulch as well!

August 27, 2008: United Way Days of Caring
Family Centers selected Wednesday, August 27 as their date to ask volunteeers from around the community to help
with various projects for the United Way Days of Caring. We are always amazed at the level of community involvement
that we get from this annual event and this day was just exceptional! We prepared projects for both the morning and
afternoon and this year's volunteers exceeded our expectations, completed everything on the list and were asking for more!
Take a look at what these guys accomplished:
The morning started out with a series of 5 room moves that will allow us to better utilize the available
space in the facility. We were lucky enough to have two volutneers from Ge Healthcare
to help us move a conference table and furniture as well as storage room shelves, futon sofas, chairs
and lots of stuff!
Then, we have a busload (I kid you not) of first and second year students from the University of Wisconsin Law school
These students were assigned the task of weeding our beautiful rain garden. They were SO efficient, they completed
everything on the list and asked for more! I hope I get a chance to see them again in the future, hopefully not in a
courtroom setting :>)

After a busy morning, we started additional projects in the afternoon.
Hey, they even DO WINDOWS! We had a crew of five from Wisconsin Alumni Association that
cleaned every one of our first floor windows to help us and our participants enjoy the beautiful outdoors,
even when we're stuck inside.

And we had still another group of eight people from M3 (Mortenson, Matzelle & Meldrum) who helped sanitize toys
in our Early Childhood Center, put some shelves together and even help with stenciling the ducks to make sure it
was all completed!

We even had our own local celebrity, John Stofflet from NBC 15 News try his hand at stenciling
ducks on the wall to help the children find their way back to our Early Childhood Center.

We would like to
extend a special thanks to United Way, our volunteers and all volunteers around Dane County who
understand the importance of giving their time and talents to make life better for our staff and,
most importantly, those participants that use our services!
July 8, 2008: East Coast High School Students Help us Out
36 high school students attending the University of Wisconsin American Collegiate Adventures summer camp
helped us out with some much needed grounds maintenenace on Tuesday, July 8. Let me tell you, if you want to get
a bunch of work done, let volunteeer high school students do it! These guys were phenomenal in helping with everything from
painting an interior room, filling our new sandbox with sand, raking the grass, mowing the lawn and pulling weeds! Thanks
to the volunteers and the University of Wisconsin for providing us with this opportunity to utilize these great resources!

March 21, 2008: Parental Stress Center is now Canopy Center
The Parental Stress Center has rebranded itself with a new name, Canopy Center - Healing and Family Support Services.
August 3, 2007: Target East Volunteers Come Through!
Fourteen volunteers from Madison's Target East store challenged the August heat to help Family Centers relocate
3,000 square feet of mulch and prepare the ground for seeding with grass...all in an effort to maintain the
outdoor beauty of our fabulous facility! This team wanted to participate in the United Way Days of Caring
but were unavailable for the days of the event. So, realizing that volunteering is not limited to specific days
of the year, they helped us ahead of time! David Kinney, Loaned Executive from Oscar Mayer/Kraft Foods
was available to welcome the group on behalf of the United Way.

Thank You
!!!!
